ELLIPTIC WORKS consists of an international team of industry, technology, and business experts resulting in a dynamic collaboration to make our vision happen. Elliptic Works formed in 2015 and is now active to commercialize its unique pool return. In addition, proof-of-concept demonstrators of VLC are already available, and the key patents are granted.

John (JT) Tortorella

JOHN TORTORELLA

CO-FOUNDER  & GENERAL MANAGER

Born in the Basilicata region of Southern Italy, JT and his family emigrated to the United States when he was 11 years old. The Patchogue-Medford area became their home, where JT went to local school and colleges, graduating with a marketing degree. In 1981, JT married Terry, moved to Southampton and started a gunite pool construction company, J. Tortorella Swimming Pools, Inc. Over 40 years later, in 2022, the Tortorella Group has expanded its ownership structure after growing the group to servicing all water features, pool and home heating installation and repairs, and propane and bulk chemical delivery. JT is proud to be recognized by PSN Top 50 Builders and showcased in Forbes, House & Gardens and the NY Times. Committed to the growth, fair regulation, and professionalism of the pool industry, JT sat as President and Board Member of the L.I. Chapter of the NSPI (now PHTA), is a founding member of the Southampton Business Alliance and continues to be active, along with members of his team, in LIPSA, NESPA and the NPC. JT’s compassion extends to both the local organizations of Independent Group Home Living Program (IGHL), the American Heart Association; Camp PaQuaTuck, Goodfellows, Chabad Jewish Center, area Chambers of Commerce, PBA and High School Sports.

John Bouvier

CO-FOUNDER, MANAGEMENT & SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR

John (MSME -Univ. of C/Western) served as Lead Engineer for NASA Space Station Robotics Systems and served as General Manager of Oceaneering Space Systems. His experience includes work with the Naval Weapons Lab as a Flight Test Engineer and has extensive experience in submersible design, R&D with DoD, DoE, NASA and other programs. He worked as Deep Water Dive Officer on numerous Naval programs, and deep submergence diver involved with deep water salvage operations. Mr. Bouvier holds several DoD and commercial patents and led numerous technical publications including Principal Author of the Space Station Robotic Systems Integration Standards.

Sean Walsh

Sean holds a BSc., Environmental Science, Cum Laude, SUNY Plattsburgh. He was employed by the Walt Disney Company before moving on and applying his efforts within the pool technologies. He joined the J. Tortorella Company and began development of product research to improve the swimming pool industry. Mr. Walsh’s first patent, the variable speed return, is currently marketed globally. He is one of the founders of Elliptic Works, LLC and is currently working on several patented products related to the pool and spa industries.

Barbara Rizzi

BARBARA RIZZI

PARTNER & CFO

From 1999 -2022, Barbara served as CFO and General Manager of The Tortorella Group. At Elliptic Works, she is responsible for accounting, contract negotiation, and acts as CFO.  Currently Barbara sits on NESPA’s budget committee and is Vice President of LIPSA.  Barbara refers to herself as Penny from the Big Bang Theory since she is surrounded by the other wildly intelligent members of Elliptic Works cool.

Stefan Mangold

STEFAN MANGOLD

PARTNER & R&D

Stefan lives and works in Switzerland. In 2015, he founded Lovefield Wireless, a technology company that innovates and builds communication systems for the Internet-of-Things, digital toys, and entertainment experience designs for theme parks. He has been a Walt Disney Imagineer and Senior Researcher at Disney for six years. Prior to his role at Walt Disney, he was also with the telecommunications operator Swisscom Switzerland, and working in research for consumer products at Philips Research, Briarcliff Manor NY. Stefan teaches a class in Computer Science at the ETH Zurich University. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from RWTH Aachen University, Germany.

Eric Eckstein

Eric is founder of Your Apps Company, providing solutions for commercial, hospitality, governmental and non-profit markets as well as technology, product development, business, and intellectual property consulting for clients. He was co-founder, President and CTO of United Public Safety, providing rugged mobile hardware and software solutions for public safety markets. Eric has over 25 years of R&D, engineering, IP and operations and executive experience with positions as President/CTO/COO/VP of Two Technologies and QEI Corporations & VP Global R&D for Checkpoint Systems. Eric currently has 21 patents and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Drexel University.
